WHEREAS it is provided amongst other things by Section 20 of the Local Government (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1923 (hereinafter referred to as the Act) that I, the Minister for Local Government, may by Order make rules for carrying the Act or the county schemes thereunder into effect, and in particular for regulating the transfer of the property and liabilities of any public body abolished under the Act, and any adjustment of rights, duties and liabilities required for the purposes of the Act: |

AND WHEREAS it is necessary to make provision for the transfer and adjustment of the duties and liabilities of boards of guardians, which have been abolished under county schemes, in relation to the upholding, maintenance and insurance of the workhouse buildings of their several unions where such buildings are unoccupied and are not required for the purposes of a county scheme: |

NOW THEREFORE I, the Minister for Local Government, in pursuance of Section 20 of the Act and in exercise of all powers in this behalf enabling me, do by this Order make the following rules with respect to the said workhouse buildings, that is to say :-- |
||
1. (1) The Council of an administrative county in which a disused workhouse is situate shall uphold and maintain the premises constituting such workhouse in good repair, and shall insure and keep insured the same against loss or damage by fire in such sum as shall be reasonable sufficient to cover any probable loss, and in such manner as the said Council shall determine. |
||
(2) The said Council shall appoint a fit person to act as caretaker of a disused workhouse, and may pay to the person so appointed such reasonable remuneration as they may think proper for his services. |
||
(3) The expression "disused workhouse" means the workhouse belonging to the union of a board of guardians which has been abolished under a county scheme, and is unoccupied and not required for the purposes of a county scheme, and includes any buildings annexed thereto. |

2. This Order may be cited as the County Councils (Disused Workhouses) Order, 1924. |
||
