EMERGENCY IMPOSITION OF DUTIES (NO. 314) (TABLE WARE) ORDER, 1953.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 1 of the Emergency Imposition of Duties Act, 1932 (No. 16 of 1932), as adapted in consequence of the enactment of the Constitution, and of every and any other power them in this behalf enabling, hereby order as follows :--

1. This Order may be cited as the Emergency Imposition of Duties (No. 314) (Table Ware) Order, 1953.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

3. Section 9 of the Finance Act, 1940 (No. 14 of 1940), and the First Schedule thereto are hereby amended, as respects articles imported on or after the 9th day of September, 1953, as follows :--

(i) in paragraph (a) in the third column at reference number 1 in that Schedule for " sixpence the article " there shall be substituted " whichever of the following rates produces in respect of each particular article the greater amount of duty, that is to say: 75 per cent. or one shilling and sixpence the article," and

(ii) in paragraph (b) in the third column at that reference number for " three pence " there shall be substituted " sixpence."
