DEPARTMENT OF POSTS AND TELEGRAPHS. INLAND POST AMENDMENT (NO. 9) WARRANT, 1959.

DEPARTMENT OF POSTS AND TELEGRAPHS. INLAND POST AMENDMENT (NO. 9) WARRANT, 1959.

I, SÉAMAS Ó RIAIN, Minister for Finance, on the representation of the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs as testified by his official seal affixed hereto, and in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 2, 12 and 82 of the Post Office Act, 1908, hereby order as follows :--

1.--(1) This Warrant may be cited as the Inland Post Amendment (No. 9) Warrant, 1959.

(2) This Warrant shall come into operation on the first day of April, 1959.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Warrant.

3. In this Warrant " the Principal Warrant " means the Inland Post Warrant, 1939 ( S. R. & O. No. 202 of 1939 ).

4. This Warrant shall be construed as one with the Principal Warrant.

5. Paragraph (6) of Regulation 3 of the Principal Warrant is hereby amended by the insertion of ", telex exchange and number " after "telephone number".

6. Paragraph (g) of Regulation 15 of the Principal Warrant is hereby amended by the deletion of " any article sent as goods or merchandise or ".

7. Paragraph (b) of Regulation 24 of the Principal Warrant is hereby amended by the deletion of " and such further sum or fee not exceeding one shilling as the Minister shall direct".

8. Regulation 7 of the Inland Post Amendment (No. 4) Warrant, 1953 ( S.I. No. 279 of 1953 ), is hereby amended--

(a) by the deletion of " green label sample packets," in paragraph (1),

(b) by the deletion of "`green label sample packet'" and "sample packet " in paragraph (2), and

(c) by the addition thereto of the following paragraph :

" (3) In respect of every green label letter packet and green label printed packet posted in Northern Ireland, Great Britain, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, and intended to be delivered in Ireland, and upon the contents of which any duty is payable under the Customs Acts, there shall be charged and paid such sum or fee not exceeding one shilling as the Minister shall direct."

9. The entries in the Schedule hereto are hereby substituted for the entries numbered 1, 7 and 8 in the First Schedule, as amended, to the Principal Warrant.

Items with a size less than the minimum are admitted if they bear a rectangular address label of cardboard or strong paper of which the two adjacent sides measure together not less than 6¼ ins. and the smaller side is not less than 1½ ins.

7. Parcel (posted in Ireland for delivery therein).

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Warrant comes into operation on the 1st April, 1959. It provides for the following changes in postal fees :--

Note : The Customs Clearance fee on incoming parcels remains unchanged at 1s. or 2s. according to the amount of the Customs charge.

The Warrant removes the provision that articles which otherwise come within the definition " printed papers " may not be transmitted as printed papers when sent as goods or merchandise. It extends the indications which may be included in printed papers to cover telex exchange and number.

The provisions regarding minimum size of certain postal packets are relaxed.
