SOCIAL WELFARE (VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTORS) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1960.

I, SEAN MacENTEE, Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 3 and 4 of the Social Welfare Act, 1952 (No. 11 of 1952) and section 17 of the Social Welfare (Amendment) Act, 1960 (No. 25 of 1960), hereby make the following Regulations:--

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Voluntary Contributors) (Amendment) Regulations, 1960.

(2) The Social Welfare (Voluntary Contributors) Regulations, 1953 ( S.I. No. 13 of 1953 ) and these Regulations may be cited together as the Social Welfare (Voluntary Contributors) Regulations, 1953 and 1960.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 2nd day of January, 1961.

3. In these Regulations, "the Principal Regulations" means the Social Welfare (Voluntary Contributors) Regulations, 1953.

4. (1) A voluntary contributor who, under the provisions of section 17 of the Social Welfare (Amendment) Act, 1960 , may elect to pay voluntary contributions either at the rate of two shillings and sixpence or at the rate of four shillings and nine pence for a contribution week, shall so elect by furnishing to the Minister within the period specified in sub-article (2) hereof a notification in the form set out in the Schedule hereto or in a form substantially to the like effect.

(2) The period within which a voluntary contributor may exercise the right of election in accordance with sub-article (1) hereof shall commence on the 2nd day of January, 1961, and end on the 1st day of May, 1961, or on such later date as the Minister, having regard to the circumstances of any particular case, may allow.

5. Articles 7 and 8 of the Principal Regulations are hereby revoked.

Election under section 17 of the Social Welfare (Amendment) Act, 1960 , to pay voluntary contributions either at the rate of 2/6d. or at the rate of 4/9d. for a contribution week.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations prescribe the manner and period in which a voluntary contributor on the 2nd January, 1961, to whom Section 17 of the Social Welfare (Amendment) Act, 1960 , applies may elect to pay voluntary contributions from that date either at the rate of 2/6d. or at the rate of 4/9d. for a contribution week.

The Regulations also revoke articles 7 and 8 of the Social Welfare (Voluntary Contributors) Regulations, 1953.
