S.I. No. 281/1964:

OIREACHTAS (ALLOWANCES TO MEMBERS) (TRAVELLING FACILITIES) REGULATIONS, 1964.

OIREACHTAS (ALLOWANCES TO MEMBERS) (TRAVELLING FACILITIES) REGULATIONS, 1964.

I, SÉAMAS Ó RIAIN, Minister for Finance, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by subsection (1) of section 5 of the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) and Ministerial and Parliamentary Offices (Amendment) Act, 1964 (No. 14 of 1964), hereby make the following regulations :

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) (Travelling Facilities) Regulations, 1964.

2. The following facilities are hereby prescribed as travelling facilities for the purposes of the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) Act, 1938 (No. 34 of 1938) :

(a) in cases in which, the normal place of residence of the member being within the area all places in which are within 10 miles from Leinster House, the claim is in respect of occasions of attendance by the member at a meeting of--

(i) Dáil Éireann or Seanad Éireann, or

(ii) a committee of Dáil Éireann or Seanad Éireann of which he is a member--

an allowance at the rate of 10s. per day, and

(b) in all other cases--

(i) a mileage allowance at the rate of 6d. per mile, or

(ii) where the member claims that he travelled in his own motor car, a mileage allowance at the appropriate rate specified in the Schedule to these Regulations, or

(iii) such travelling expenses as the Minister for Finance shall be satisfied were reasonably incurred.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.
