CONTINENTAL SHELF (DESIGNATED AREAS) ORDER, 1968.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 2 (3) of the Continental Shelf Act, 1968 (No. 14 of 1968), hereby order as follows :

1. This Order may be cited as the Continental Shelf (Designated Areas) Order, 1968.

2. The areas set out in the Schedule to this Order are hereby designated as areas within which the rights of the State outside the territorial sea over the sea bed and subsoil for the purpose of exploring such sea bed and subsoil and exploiting their natural resources may be exercised.

SCHEDULE

Area I

The area bounded by (a) a line joining the points

thence Northward along longitude 10° 12' W to its first intersection with the territorial sea at point (27) 51° 30' 15" N 10° 12' W

and (b) the line of the seaward limit of the territorial sea from the point (27) 51° 30' 15" N 10° 12'W eastwards and northwards to point (1) 53° 40' N 6° 07'W.

Area II

The area bounded on the South, West and North by a line joining the following points

and on the East by the seaward limit of the territorial sea between points

Area III

The area bounded on the South, West and North by a line joining the following points :

and on the East by the seaward limit of the territorial sea between points

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order provides for the designation of certain areas in which the rights of the State in regard to the natural resources of the sea bed and subsoil of the continental shelf may be exercised.
