SOCIAL WELFARE (MATERNITY ALLOWANCE) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1971. |

The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 3 and 20 of the Social Welfare Act, 1952 (No. 11 of 1952), hereby makes the following Regulations:-- |

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Maternity Allowance) (Amendment) Regulations, 1971. |
||
(2) These Regulations and the Social Welfare (Maternity Allowance) Regulations, 1952 (No. 375 of 1952) may be cited together as the Social Welfare (Maternity Allowance) Regulations, 1952 and 1971. |

2. In these Regulations "new penny" means a new penny in the new decimal currency provided for by the Decimal Currency Act, 1969 (No. 23 of 1969). |

3. On and from the 15th day of February, 1971 article 7 of the Social Welfare (Maternity Allowance) Regulations, 1952 (No. 375 of 1952) shall be amended by the substitution therefor of the following:-- |
||
"7. Where any sum payable by way of maternity allowance would, apart from this article, include a fraction of a new penny, that fraction shall be treated as one new penny." |

EXPLANATORY NOTE. |
||
The effect of the Regulations is to provide that on and from the 15th February, 1971, any amount payable by way of maternity allowance which includes a fraction of a new penny shall be rounded up to the nearest new penny. |
