ROAD TRAFFIC (SPEED LIMITS) (COUNTY BOROUGH OF DUBLIN AND COUNTY OF DUBLIN) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1992.

ROAD TRAFFIC (SPEED LIMITS) (COUNTY BOROUGH OF DUBLIN AND COUNTY OF DUBLIN) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1992.

The Minister for the Environment in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 5 and 45 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 (No. 24 of 1961) and section 46 of the said Act (as amended by section 25 of the Road Traffic Act 1968 (No. 25 of 1968), hereby makes the following Regulations:--

1. (i) These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County Borough of Dublin and County of Dublin) (Amendment) Regulations, 1992.

(ii) The Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County Borough of Dublin and County of Dublin) Regulations 1989 to 1991 and these Regulations shall be construed together and may be cited collectively as the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County Borough of Dublin and County of Dublin) Regulations 1989 to 1992.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 30th day of July, 1992.

3. In these Regulations "the Principal Regulations" means the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County Borough of Dublin and County of Dublin) Regulations 1989 ( S.I. No. 206 of 1989 ).

4. The Principal Regulations are hereby amended by--

( a ) the addition to article 5 of the following sub-article:

"(3) 70 miles per hour shall be the speed limit for mechanically propelled vehicles on the roads specified in the Fifth Schedule to these Regulations."

( b ) the addition after the Fourth Schedule of the following:

FIFTH SCHEDULE.

Roads in respect of which a special speed limit of 70 miles per hour is prescribed.

1. The following roads in and adjacent to the County Borough of Dublin and the Borough of Dun Laoghaire.

( a ) The Shankill-Bray By-Pass from a point 20 metres south of the Loughlinstown Roundabout to the county boundary.

( b ) The Western Parkway Motorway between a point 60 metres south of its junction with the Navan Road (National road N3) and a point 935 metres north of the centre line of the northernmost bridge on the Palmerstown By-Pass above the Western Parkway Motorway.

( c ) The Western Parkway Motorway between a point 97 metres north of the northernmost bridge on the Palmerstown By-Pass above the Western Parkway Motorway and its junction with the northbound ramp and southbound ramp linking the Motorway to the Tallaght Road (National Road N81).

( d ) The New Airport Road between a point 6 metres north of a point on the road directly beneath the northern face of the bridge carrying the over pass road connecting the Swords Road (National Road N1) with the Shantalla Road and a point 1,100 metres from its junction with the Swords Road (National Road N1) at Corballis Roundabout."

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations further amend the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County Borough and County of Dublin) Regulations 1989 by prescribing a 70 miles per hour speed limit as being the maximum permissible speed on the Shankill-Bray By-Pass, the Airport Road and the Western Parkway Motorway. Ambulances, Fire Brigades and Garda Síochána vehicles, while being used in the course of duty, are exempt from the speed limits.
