The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 27 of the Social Welfare Act, 1997 (No. 10 of 1997), hereby orders as follows: |

1. This Order may be cited as the Social Welfare Act, 1997 (Section 24) (Commencement) Order, 1997. |

2. Section 24 of the Social Welfare Act, 1997 shall come into operation on the 10th day of April, 1997. |

EXPLANATORY NOTE |
||
|
Section 24 of the Social Welfare Act, 1997 provides that a person who ceases to be entitled to the One Parent Family Payment by virtue of no longer being a qualified parent or ceases to be entitled to Carer's Allowance by virtue of no longer being a carer may qualify for Pre-Retirement Allowance without first having to have been in receipt of unemployment payments for 15 months. |

This Order brings these provisions into effect on the 10th day of April, 1997. |
