JUSTICE (ALTERATION OF NAME OF DEPARTMENT AND TITLE OF MINISTER) ORDER, 1997

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 6 (1) of the Ministers and Secretaries (Amendment) Act, 1939 (No. 36 of 1939), hereby order as follows:

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Justice (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1997.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 9th day of July, 1997.

2. The name of the Department of State, the present name whereof is, in the Irish language, an Roinn Dlí agus Cirt and in the English language, the Department of Justice, is hereby altered, in the Irish language, to that of an Roinn Dlí agus Cirt, Comhionannais agus Athchóirithe Dlí' and in the English language, to that of the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform.

3. The title of the Minister having charge of the Department of State, whose present title is, in the Irish language, an tAire Dlí agus Cirt and, in the English language, the Minister for Justice, is hereby altered, in the Irish-language, to that of an tAire Dlí agus Cirt, Comhionannais agus Athchóirithe Dlí and, in the English language, to that of the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform.

4. In any enactment--

( a ) references to the Department of Justice shall be construed as references to the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform;

( b ) references to the Minister for Justice shall be construed as references to the Minister for Justice. Equality and Law Reform.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order changes the name of the Department of Justice to that of the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform and the title of the Minister for Justice to that of the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform.
