I, John O'Donoghue, Minister for Justice Equality and Law Reform, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 1 (3) of the Children Act, 1997 (No. 40 of 1997), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Children Act, 1997 (Commencement) Order, 1998.

2. The 1st day of January, 1999, is hereby fixed as the day on which section 11 (insofar as it inserts sections 20, 21, 22 and 29 into the Guardianship of Infants Act, 1964 (No. 7 of 1964)) and Part III of the Children Act, 1997 (No. 40 of 1997), shall come into operation.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order fixes the 1st day of January, 1999 as the date on which section 11 (insofar as it inserts sections 20, 21, 22 and 29 into the Guardianship of Infants Act, 1964 (No. 7 of 1964)) and Part III of the Children Act, 1997 (No. 40 of 1997), shall come into operation.
