I, Martin Cullen, Minister for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3(7)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 2006 (No. 23 of 2006) and section 5(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 (No. 24 of 1961), hereby make the following regulations: 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic Act 2006 (Mobile Phones - Prescribed Numbers) Regulations 2006. 2. The numbers prescribed for the purposes of section 3(7)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 2006 (No. 23 of 2006) are 999 and 112. |

Section 3 of the Road Traffic Act 2006 provides that it is a defence for a person charged with the offence of driving while using a mobile phone to show that he/she was using the phone to call the Gardaí, an ambulance, a fire or other emergency service on numbers prescribed for such a service. This Regulation prescribes 999 and 112 as the emergency numbers. |
