S.I. No. 162/2018 - European Communities (Roadside Inspection of Commercial Vehicles) (Designated Contact Point) Regulations 2018


Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 18th May, 2018.

I, SHANE ROSS, Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the European Communities Act 1972 (No. 27 of 1972) and for the purpose of giving effect to Article 17(1) of Commission Directive 2014/47/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 3 April 20141 , hereby make the following regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the European Communities (Roadside Inspection of Commercial Vehicles) (Designated Contact Point) Regulations 2018.

2. The Road Safety Authority is designated as the contact point for the purposes of Article 17(1) of Commission Directive 2014/47/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 3 April 2014.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not purport to be a legal interpretation).

These Regulations give effect to the requirements under Article 17 of the European Directive on the technical roadside inspection of the roadworthiness of commercial vehicles (Directive 2014/47/EU).

The Directive states that Ireland is required to provide the name of a designated contact point which is the Road Safety Authority. The purpose of the contact point is to ensure, where appropriate, the exchange of information with, and the provision of assistance to, the contact points of other Member States as a result of roadside inspections.
