S.I. No. 517/2022 - Road Traffic (Traffic and Parking) (Amendment) Regulations 2022


Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 18th October, 2022.

I, EAMON RYAN, Minister for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 3 and 35 of the Road Traffic Act 1994 (No. 7 of 1994) and the National Roads and Road Traffic (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order 2002 ( S.I. No. 298 of 2002 ) (as adapted by the Transport, Tourism and Sport (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order 2020 (S.I. No. 35 1 of 2020)), hereby make the following regulations:

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Traffic and Parking) (Amendment) Regulations 2022.

2. The Road Traffic (Traffic and Parking) Regulations 1997 ( S.I. No. 182 of 1997 ) are amended –

(a) in Article 8, by the substitution of the following sub-article for sub-article (6):

“(6) A driver of a vehicle approaching a zebra pedestrian crossing where traffic sign number RPC 001 (zebra pedestrian crossing) or traffic sign number RPC 001A (zebra pedestrian crossing without belisha beacons) is provided shall yield the right of way to any pedestrian who has commenced crossing the road at the crossing.”,

(b) in Article 36(2)(h) –

(i) by the insertion of the following subparagraph after subparagraph (i):

“(ia) traffic sign number RPC 001A (zebra pedestrian crossing without belisha beacons),”, and

(ii) in subparagraph (ii), by the insertion of “RPC 001A (zebra pedestrian crossing without belisha beacons), ” after “RPC 001 (zebra pedestrian crossing),”, and

(c) in Article 46 –

(i) in sub-article (6) –

(I) by the insertion of “or RPC 001A (zebra pedestrian crossing without belisha beacons)” after “RPC 001 (zebra pedestrian crossing)”, and

(II) by the insertion of “or RPC 001A” after “location of traffic sign number RPC 001”, and

(ii) in sub-article (7), by the insertion of “or RPC 001A (zebra pedestrian crossing without belisha beacons)” after “traffic sign number RPC 001 (zebra pedestrian crossing)”.
