43.(1) Under arrangements approved by the Ministry, a board may, in respect of any pupil ordinarily resident within its area who has not attained the age of eighteen years and is attending a full-time day course of further education (a)exempt the pupil from payment of fees in respect of his attendance at such a course in an institution of further education managed by the board; (b)pay in respect of such a pupil's attendance at such a course at the [Ulster Polytechnic] or at an institution of further education managed by another board any fees due to that college or institution; (c)provide such a pupil free of charge with books, writing material, stationery, instruments, practice material and such other articles as are necessary to enable him to take full advantage of such course; (d)pay any necessary examination fees payable by such a pupil in connection with such a course; (e)pay the whole or part of the cost of board and lodging for any such pupil attending such a course where, in the opinion of the board, it is necessary for the pupil to reside away from home; (2) For the purposes of this Article, a pupil shall be deemed not to have attained the age of eighteen years until the 31st July next following the date upon which he attained that age.
