INDUSTRIES DEVELOPMENT ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1971 - LONG TITLE

An Act to amend the Industries Development Act (Northern Ireland)
1966 and Part II of the Industrial Advice and Enterprise Act
(Northern Ireland) 1964; to make further provision with respect to
industrial development and for purposes connected with those matters.

Expenditure in obtaining advice as to exercise of powers under 1966
Act.

3. The Ministry may incur such expenditure as it considers necessary
for the purpose of obtaining advice as to whether it should
exercise its powers under the Act of 1966 in relation to an
undertaking.

Grants for stimulating or assisting industrial development.

4.(1) The Ministry may make to any person specified in an order
made, subject to affirmative resolution, by the Ministry with the
approval of the Ministry of Finance, grants of such amount and on
such terms and conditions (including conditions for repayment) as the
Ministry may consider proper, for the purpose of enabling that
person to stimulate or assist industrial enterprise, the development
of industry or the provision of employment.

(2) If the Ministry is satisfied that a person to whom it has
made a grant under subsection (1) is unable to fulfil any written
contract entered into, or written offer or written undertaking made,
by him for the purpose mentioned in that subsection, the Ministry
may make such arrangements as it considers expedient for the purpose
of safeguarding the interests of any person who has entered into a
written contract with the first-mentioned person or has incurred
liabilities in pursuance of a written undertaking or written offer
made by him.

(3) In subsection (1) "industry" includes business, trade or service.

Promotional visits to Northern Ireland.

6. The Ministry may, under section 5(4)(b) of the Act of 1966,
incur expenditure for the purposes of visits to Northern Ireland by
any persons, if the visits may promote the establishment, carrying
on or development of an undertaking likely to provide employment.

Extension of Pt.II of Industrial Advice and Enterprise Act (Northern
Ireland) 1964 to include business activities.

7.(1) In Part II of the Industrial Advice and Enterprise Act
(Northern Ireland) 1964 (industrial enterprise fund) any reference to
industrial enterprise, the development of industry and training for
industrial management shall be construed as including, respectively,
business enterprise, the development of business and training for
business management.

(2) In subsection (1) "business" includes trade or service.

(2) There shall be charged on and paid out of the Consolidated
Fund any increase, attributable to this Act, in the sums which
under any other Act are to be so charged and paid.

Interpretation.

9. In this Act

"the Act of 1966" means the Industries Development Act (Northern
Ireland) 1966;

"the Ministry" means the Ministry of Commerce.

INDUSTRIES DEVELOPMENT ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1971 - SECT 10
Short title.

10.(1) This Act may be cited as the Industries Development Act
(Northern Ireland) 1971.

(2) This Act (except section 7) shall be construed as one with the
Act of 1966 and this Act (except that section) and that Act may
be cited together as the Industries Development Acts (Northern
Ireland) 1966 and 1971.
