The Department of the Environment makes the following By-Laws in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 65(1) and (2) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981[1].
Citation and commencement
1.
These By-Laws may be cited as the Motor Hackney Carriages (Belfast) (Amendment No. 2) By-Laws (Northern Ireland) 2006 and shall come into operation on 18th December 2006.
By-Laws amended
2.
In the Table in by-law 26(1)(a) of the By-Laws relating to Motor Hackney Carriages standing or plying for hire made by the Council of the County Borough of Belfast on 4th June 1951[2] column (4), as it relates to item 4, is amended as follows—
(a) for the words "2 minutes 20 seconds (140 seconds)" substitute "4 minutes 30 seconds (270 seconds)"; and
(b) for the words "15 seconds" substitute "30 seconds".

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the By-Laws)
These By-Laws further amend the Motor Hackney Carriages (Belfast) By-Laws made by the Council of the County Borough of Belfast on 4th June 1951 by increasing the length of time for which—
(a) the initial rate of fare is charged from 2 minutes 20 seconds (140 seconds) to 4 minutes 30 seconds (270 seconds), and
(b) the subsequent rate of fare is charged from 15 seconds to 30 seconds
during the periods from Christmas Eve to 27th December and from New Year's Eve to 2nd January.
