The Department of the Environment makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by Articles 103(1) and 218(1) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981(1).

Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2011 and shall come into operation on 21st March 2011.

Revocation of regulation 9 of the Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks) Regulations

2. Regulation 9 of the Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1994(2) is revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations revoke regulation 9 of the Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1994.

The effect of this revocation is to lift from a company the requirement to notify the Department of the Environment where a policy or security issued by the company ceases to be effective (other than by effluxion of time or by reason of death) without the consent of the person to whom it was issued.

An impact assessment has not been produced as no adverse impact on the costs of the private or voluntary sectors is foreseen.
