Summary: The complainant requested information about the internal correspondence that was held by the public authority about a panellist and their connection to organisations associated with Scientology over a period of five years. The public authority confirmed that they did hold information that was relevant to the request but that it was exempt from disclosure under section 40(2) (by virtue of section 40(3)(a)(i)). The Commissioner has considered the exempt information and has determined that section 40(2) (by virtue of section 40(3)(a)(i)) was correctly applied to the information. This was because it is the personal information of the named panellist and it would be unfair to the panellist for the information to be released. The Commissioner therefore dismisses the complaint. Information Tribunal appeal number EA/2009/0063 allowed.
