Summary
The application claimed a method of generating a PDF file for a single sheet document based on combining “FormX Objects”, each representing an original page. Applying the test set out in Aerotel/Macrossan the hearing officer found the contribution was solely a computer program processing data and therefore the claimed invention was excluded from patentability. A proposed amended claim which included a printing step was also rejected as both the printing and the resulting physical document were conventional and added nothing to the contribution to human knowledge.
