In exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 34 of the Police Act 1964 (read with section 1(2) of the Police Pensions Act 1961), as amended and extended by sections 12 and 15 of the Superannuation Act 1972, I hereby make the following Regulations:-
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Special Constables (Pensions) (Amendment) Regulations 1980.
2. These Regulations shall come into operation on 1st October 1980 and shall have effect for the purposes of Regulation 3 as from 1st September 1978.
3.-(1) In the application of the Police Pensions Regulations 1973(1) to the calculation of awards under the Special Constables (Pensions) Regulations 1973(2), the first mentioned Regulations shall apply as amended by the Police Pensions (Amendment) Regulations 1980 (which increased pensionable pay for the period 1st September 1978 to 30th April 1979).
(2) In accordance with paragraph (1) of this Regulation, for Regulation 3(1) of the Special Constables (Pensions) Regulations 1973 (which defines the expression "the principal Regulations") there shall be substituted the following paragraph:-

These Regulations amend the Special Constables (Pensions) Regulations 1973 with effect from 1st September 1978 (retrospective effect is authorised by sections 12 and 15 of the Superannuation Act 1972). The effect of the amendment is to provide that the awards under those Regulations which have to be calculated by reference to rates of pensionable pay of regular constables for any period after 31st August 1978 and before 1st May 1979 are to be calculated by reference to the higher rates of pensionable pay prescribed for that period by the Police Pensions (Amendment) Regulations 1980.
