(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations amend the Motor Cycles (Eye Protectors) Regulations 1985 by prescribing two types of eye protectors as authorised for use by persons driving or riding on motor bicycles, in addition to those prescribed by the 1985 Regulations.
To be within either of the new types an eye protector has to meet various specified requirements. The principal requirement of the first type is that it conforms to the requirements relating to Grade X in British Standard 4110: 1979. The principal requirement of the second type is that it is fitted with lenses designed to correct a defect in sight. On and after 1st April 1989, an eye protector of the second type may not be used unless it was first used before that date.
The British Standard may be obtained from the British Standards Institution at Linford Wood, Milton Keynes, MK14 6LE.
1972 c. 20; section 33AA was inserted by section 57 of the Transport Act 1982 (c. 49).
