1. The length of highway described in the Schedule and indicated by narrow striped hatching on the plan shall become a trunk road as from the date on which this Order comes into force.
2. In this Order-
(1) all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway;
(2) "the plan" means the plan numbered HA10/2E/309 marked "The A421 Road (M1 Motorway (Junction 13) to South Bedford) Order 1992" signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House, Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY.
3. This Order may be cited as the A421 Road (M1 Motorway (Junction 13) to South Bedford) Order 1992 and shall come into force on the date on which the Secretary of State for Transport notifies the Bedfordshire County Council that the new trunk roads and the slip roads defined in article 1 of the A428 Trunk Road (Bedford Southern Bypass) Order 1991(3) and in article 1 of the A428 Trunk Road (Bedford Southern Bypass) Order 1992(4) are open to public traffic. That length of the A421 road which commences at the existing roundabout on the west side of M1 Motorway (Junction 13) and terminates at a point 350 metres east of the Bedford-Bletchley railway line.
