1.-(1) The lengths of trunk road specified in the Schedule to this Order and shown by broad striped hatching on the deposited plan shall cease to be trunk road as from the date on which the main new trunk road is first opened to public traffic.
(2) When the lengths of trunk road specified in paragraphs 2 and 3 of that Schedule cease to be trunk road they shall be classified as classified road.
2. In this Order:-
(1) all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway;
(2) (i) "classified road" as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is not a principal road for the purposes of enactments or instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads but is a classified road for the purpose of every enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State and which does not specifically refer to their classification as principal roads;
(ii)"the deposited plan" means the plan numbered HA10/2/SWM/71, marked "The A4 and A46 Trunk Roads (Batheaston/Swainswick Bypass and Slip Roads) (Detrunking) Order 1993" signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at the Department of Transport, 43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY;
(iii)"the main new trunk road" has the same meaning as in the "A4 and A46 Trunk Roads (Batheaston/Swainswick Bypass and Slip Roads) Order 1993(3)";
(iv)"principal road" as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is a principal road for the purposes of enactments and instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads and is also classified for the purpose of every other enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State.
3. This Order shall come into force on 15th March 1993 and may be cited as The A4 and A46 Trunk Roads (Batheaston/Swainswick Bypass and Slip Roads) (Detrunking) Order 1993.

The lengths of trunk road ceasing to be trunk road are those lengths of the A4 and A46 Trunk Roads which are situated in the vicinities of Swainswick and Batheaston in the District of Wansdyke, in the County of Avon,and are as follows:-
1. The length labelled -�A' on the deposited plan from a point on the northern side of its junction with the private access track to the property known as Pickwick Farm southwards for a distance of 110 metres to a point on the southern side of its junction with Tadwick Lane.
2. The length labelled -�B' on the deposited plan from a point 120 metres south of the centre line of its junction with Tadwick Lane for a distance of 1,040 metres to the Bath City boundary on the northern side of its junction with Deadmill Lane.
3. The length labelled -�C:rsquo; on the deposited plan from the Bath City boundary 120 metres east of its junction with Bailbrook Lane for a distance of 1,200 metres to a point on the northern side of its junction with A363 Bradford Road at Bathford Roundabout.
