Whereas in pursuance of paragraphs 20, 21 and 22 of Schedule 1 to the Medical Act 1983(1) the General Medical Council have made the General Medical Council (Constitution of Fitness to Practise Committees) (Amendment No. 2) Rules 1994 as set out in the Schedule to this Order:
And whereas by paragraph 24 of the said Schedule, such rules shall not come into force until approved by Order of the Privy Council:
Now, therefore, Their Lordships, having taken the said rules into consideration, are hereby pleased to approve the same.
This Order may be cited as the General Medical Council (Constitution of Fitness to Practise Committees) (Amendment No. 2) Rules Order of Council 1994, and shall come into force on 3rd January 1995.

The General Medical Council, in exercise of their powers under paragraphs 20, 21 and 22 of Schedule 1 of the Medical Act 1983, hereby make the following rules:-
1.-(1) These rules may be cited as the General Medical Council (Constitution of Fitness to Practise Committees) (Amendment No. 2) Rules 1994, and shall come into force on 3rd January 1995.
(2) In these rules "the principal rules" mean the General Medical Council (Constitution of Fitness to Practice Committees) Rules 1986(2).
2. The principal rules shall be amended by the substitution for Rule 11(2) (Filling of vacancies) of the following-
"(2) Subject to the provisions of rules 3, 4, 5 and 10, if at any time there are insufficient members available to sit, the President may temporarily appoint to one of the Committees any member who under these rules would have been eligible to be elected to it."

The rules approved by this Order amend rules governing the constitution of the General Medical Council's Fitness to Practise Committees. The amendment permits the President of the Council to make temporary appointments of medical members to the Committees.
