The Secretary of State, at the request of the British Railways Board and in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 3 of the British Railways (Penalty Fares) Act 1989(1) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

1. This Order may be cited as the British Railways (Penalty Fares) Act 1989 (Revocation of Activating Orders) Order 1994 and shall come into force on 1st April 1994.

2. The Orders referred to in the Schedule to this Order are hereby revoked.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order revokes the Orders referred to in the Schedule made under section 3 of the British Railways (Penalty Fares) Act 1989. The Orders referred to in the Schedule brought into force the provisions of that Act in respect of specified train services, enabling British Rail to charge penalty fares in respect of those train services.(New provisions relating to the charging of penalty fares by train operators are contained in the Railway (Penalty Fares) Regulations 1994 (S. I.1994/576) and rules made in conjunction with those Regulations by the Rail Regulator).
