The Secretary of State for Wales, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 16(4)(c), 20(4)(c) and 45(3) of the School Inspections Act 1996(1), hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation, commencement and interpretation

1.-(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Education (School Inspection) (Wales) (No. 2) (Amendment) Regulations 1997 and shall come into force on 1st September 1997.

(2) In these Regulations "the principal Regulations" means the Education (School Inspection) (Wales) (No. 2) Regulations 1993(2).

Amendment of principal Regulations

2.-(1) There shall be inserted after regulation 7(2) of the principal Regulations the following paragraph:

"(2A) For the purposes of sections 16(4)(c) and 20(4)(c) of the School Inspections Act 1996 there is prescribed as the period within which the appropriate authority are, following its receipt by them, to take such steps as are reasonably practicable to secure that every registered parent of a registered pupil at the school receives a copy of the summary of the report, the period of 10 days.".

(2) There shall be inserted in regulation 7(7) of those Regulations, after "paragraphs", "(2A)".

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Education (School Inspection) (Wales) (No. 2) Regulations 1993 by inserting, in regulation 7, a new provision specifying 10 days (not counting any of the days mentioned in regulation 7(7)) as the period within which the appropriate authority is required (under sections 16(4)(c) and 20(4)(c) of the School Inspections Act 1996, as amended by paragraph 7 of Schedule 6 to the Education Act 1997) to take reasonably practicable steps to provide parents with copies of the summary of the inspection report following its receipt by them.

1996 c. 57. Sections 16(4)(c) and 20(4)(c) were amended by paragraph 7 of Schedule 6 to the Education Act 1997 (c. 44). For the meaning of "prescribed" and "regulations" see section 56(1).
