The M8 and M9 Special Roads (Newbridge Grade Separation) Speed Limit Regulations 1997

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 17(2) and (3) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984(1), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, having consulted such representative organisations as he thought fit in accordance with section 134(2) of that Act, hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation, commencement and interpretation

1.-(1) These Regulations may be cited as the M8 and M9 Special Roads (Newbridge Grade Separation) Speed Limit Regulations 1997 and shall come into force on 20th October 1997.

(2) In these Regulations-�

"M8" means the M8 special road;

"M9" means the M9 special road;

"slip road" means a road which provides access to or from the M8 or the M9 as the case may be.

Speed Limit

2. No person shall drive any vehicle at a speed exceeding-�

(a)50mph on those lengths of special road described in Schedule 1 to these Regulations; or

(b)40mph on that length of special road described in Schedule 2 to these Regulations.

Regulation 2(a)

SCHEDULE 150MPH SPEED LIMIT

1. The M8-M9 eastbound interchange link road from a point 360 metres east of its diverge from the M8 eastbound carriageway to its merge with the M8-M9 westbound interchange link road.

2. The M8-M9 westbound interchange link road from a point 400 metres west of its diverge from the M8 westbound carriageway to its merge with the M8-M9 eastbound interchange link road.

3. The M9 northbound carriageway from the merge of the M8-M9 eastbound interchange link road and the M8-M9 westbound interchange link road to a point 600 metres north of the Newbridge Roundabout.

4. The M9 northbound slip road to Newbridge Roundabout from its diverge from the M9 northbound carriageway to the stop line at Newbridge Roundabout.

5. The M9 northbound slip road from Newbridge Roundabout from its start at Newbridge Roundabout to its merge with the M9 northbound carriageway.

6. The M9 southbound carriageway from a point 600 metres north of the Newbridge Roundabout to the diverge of the M9-M8 eastbound interchange link road and the M9-M8 westbound interchange link road.

7. The M9 southbound slip road to Newbridge Roundabout from a point 660 metres north of Newbridge Roundabout to a point 190 metres north of Newbridge Roundabout.

8. The M9 southbound slip road from Newbridge Roundabout from its start at Newbridge Roundabout to its merge with the M9 southbound carriageway.

9. The M9-M8 eastbound interchange link road from its diverge from the M9 southbound carriageway to a point 200 metres south of its diverge from the M9 southbound carriageway.

10. The M9-M8 westbound interchange link road from its diverge from the M9 southbound carriageway to a point 210 metres south of its diverge from the M9 southbound carriageway.

Regulation 2(b)

SCHEDULE 240MPH SPEED LIMIT

1. The M9 southbound slip road to Newbridge Roundabout from a point 190 metres north of Newbridge Roundabout to the stop line at Newbridge Roundabout.

2. The M9 to the A8 Glasgow Road segregated turning lane from its diverge from the M9 southbound slip road to Newbridge Roundabout to its connection with the A8 Glasgow Road.
