ROAD TRAFFIC

The A23 Trunk Road (Lambeth) Red Route (Prohibition of Traffic) Order 1998

Coming into force

4th February 1998

The Traffic Director for London, in accordance with a direction given to him by the Secretary of State under section 58(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1991(1) and in exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by section 6 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984(2), and of all other enabling powers, hereby makes the following Order:-

Commencement and citation

1. This Order may be cited as The A23 Trunk Road (Lambeth) Red Route (Prohibition of Traffic) Traffic Order 1998, and shall come into force on 4th February 1998.

Interpretation

2. In this Order "central reservation" means that part of the trunk road which separates one part of its carriageway from another part for the safety and guidance of vehicular traffic using that road.

Prohibition

3.-(1) Subject to the provisions of article 6 below, no person shall cause or permit any vehicle to enter or proceed through the gap in the central reservation of the A23 trunk road at the following locations:-

(a)A23 Streatham High Road opposite Heybridge Avenue.

(b)A23 Streatham High Road opposite Guildersfield Road

(c)A23 Streatham High Road opposite Kingscourt Road

(d)A23 Streatham Hill opposite Tierney Road.

4. Subject to the provisions of article 6 below, no person shall, cause or permit any vehicle proceeding in the A23 Trunk Road, Streatham High Road and Streatham Hill, in the direction specified in an item in column (2) of the Table below to pass through the gap in the central reservation specified in column (3) of that item and then proceed in that road in the direction specified in column (4) of that item.

Exemptions

5. The provisions of articles 3 and 4 above do not apply:-

(a)to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a traffic warden; or

(b)to a vehicle being used for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes.
