(This note is not part of the Order)
The County of Devon was divided into four coroners' districts by the Devon (Coroners' Districts) Order 1979 (S.I. 1979/590). Following the establishment of unitary authorities for Plymouth and Torbay in 1998, two of those coroners' districts, Torbay and South Devon and Plymouth and South-West Devon became separated from the County of Devon for the purposes of the jurisdiction of coroners by virtue of the Devon (Coroners) Order 1998 (S.I. 1998/355). This Order amalgamates the other two coroners' districts established by the Devon (Coroners' Districts) Order 1979, Exeter and East Devon and North and West Devon, into one coroner's district to be known as the Exeter and Greater Devon coroner's district.
S.I. 1927/343.
