Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order varies the area designated a free zone by the Free Zone (Liverpool) Designation Order 1991 by increasing it from 281 hectares to 337.01 hectares, 77.87 hectares of which are located within the Metropolitan Borough of Wirrall and 259.14 hectares of which are located within the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton.

The revised area within the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral consists of the areas known as Vittoria Dock Complex, Cavendish Quay, Bidston Dock, West Float (north side) and East Float (north side). The effect of the variation is to extend the free zone westwards to incorporate the land and quayside area at Bidston Dock and to extend the free zone northwards to incorporate the land and quayside areas on the northern side of West and East Float.

The revised area within the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton consists of the areas known as Seaforth Dock, Gladstone Dock, Alexandra Dock, Langton Dock, Brocklebank Dock and Canada Dock. The effect of the variation is to extend the free zone eastwards to incorporate an area of land located on the eastern side of Regent Road.
