The Velindre National Health Service Trust (Establishment) Amendment Order 1999

The Secretary of State for Wales, in exercise of powers conferred by section 126(3) of the National Health Service Act 1977(1), section 5(1) of the National Health Service and Community Care Act 1990(2) and section 25 of the Welsh Language Act 1993(3) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, after completion of the consultation prescribed under section 5(2) of the National Health Service and Community Care Act 1990(4), hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement

1. This Order may be cited as the Velindre National Health Service Trust (Establishment) Amendment Order 1999 and shall come into force on 1st April 1999.

Amendment of Establishment Order

2.-(1) For article 2 of the Velindre National Health Service Trust (Establishment) Order 1993(5) there shall be substituted the following article:-�

"Establishment of the trust

2. There is hereby established an NHS trust which shall be called Velindre National Health Service Trust or Ymddiriedolaeth Gwasanaeth Iechyd Gwladol Felindre.".

(2) For article 3 of the said Order there shall be substituted the following article:-�

"Nature and functions of the trust

3.-(1) The trust is established for the purpose specified in section 5(1)(a) of the Act.

(2) The trust's functions (which include functions which the Secretary of State considers appropriate in relation to the provision of services by the trust for one or more health authorities) shall be

(a)to own and manage Velindre Hospital, Velindre Road, Whitchurch, Cardiff CF4 7XL and associated hospitals and premises, and there to provide and manage hospital accommodation and services; and

(b)to own and manage Welsh Blood Service Headquarters, Ely Valley Road, Talbot Green, Pontyclun CF72 9WB and associated premises, and there to provide and manage services relating to the collection, screening and processing of blood and its constituents and to the preparation and supply of blood, plasma and other blood products.".

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order amends the Order which established Velindre National Health Service Trust so as to amend its functions and provide for its Welsh name.

The Order extends the functions of the trust to include the function of managing services relating to the collection, screening and processing of blood and its constituents and to the preparation and supply of blood, plasma and other blood products, provided from Welsh Blood Service Headquarters, Ely Valley Road, Talbot Green, Pontyclun and associated premises.
