Section 6(1)(a) of the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007 ("the Act") provides that statistics produced by the Statistics Board, a government department, the Scottish Administration, a Welsh ministerial authority, a Northern Ireland department, or any other person acting on behalf of the Crown are official statistics.
This Order has the effect of designating the statistics produced, or to be produced, by the persons listed in the Schedule as official statistics, to the extent that they are not otherwise official statistics by virtue of section 6(1)(a) of the Act. This Order revokes the Official Statistics Order 2009 and provides an enlarged list of persons in the Schedule. The Schedule includes 57 persons of which 6 are new additions to the list, and 3 are omitted from the list in the previous Order. The new bodies to the list are the Marine Management Organisation, the British Educational Communications and Technology Agency (known as "Becta"), the Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency, the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service, the National College for Leadership of Schools and Children-s Services Limited and the NHS Business Services Authority.
The list includes a number of registered charities although this Order does not impose any additional burdens on them. An impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no impact on the private or voluntary sectors is foreseen.
