The Secretary of State makes the following Order in exercise of the power conferred by section 2(2) of the Prisons (Property) Act 2013(1):
1. This Order may be cited as the Prisons (Property) Act 2013 (Commencement) Order 2015.
2. Section 1 (power to destroy or otherwise dispose of property) of the Prisons (Property) Act 2013 comes into force on 26th March 2015.

This Order brings section 1 of the Prisons (Property) Act 2013 (c. 11) ("the Act") into force on 26th March 2015. Section 1 of the Act inserts into the Prison Act 1952 (c. 52) a new section 42A which introduces a power for prison governors and directors to destroy or otherwise dispose of unauthorised property confiscated or found in specific circumstances.
