The Fishguard to Bangor Trunk Road (A487) (Porthmadog, Minffordd and Tremadog Bypass and De-trunking) Order 2009

The Welsh Ministers, in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10, 12, 106 and 254 of the Highways Act 1980(1), and of all other enabling powers (2), make this Order.

1. The new highways which the Welsh Ministers propose to construct along the routes described in Schedule 1 to this Order shall become trunk roads as from the date when this Order comes into force.

2. The centre lines of the new trunk roads are indicated by heavy black lines and the associated side roads proposals are indicated by broken white lines on the deposited plan.

3. The lengths of trunk road described in Schedule 2 to this Order, and shown by broad striped hatching on the deposited plan shall cease to be trunk road and shall become classified roads as from the date on which the Welsh Assembly Government notifies the County Council of Gwynedd that the new trunk roads are open for through traffic.

4. The Welsh Assembly Government is authorised to construct the bridge specified in Schedule 3 to this Order as part of the main new trunk road.

5. In this Order:–

(1) all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway;

i. "the deposited plan" ("y plan a adneuwyd") means the plan numbered HA 10/2 WAG 1 marked "The Fishguard to Bangor Trunk Road (A487) (Porthmadog, Minffordd and Tremadog Bypass and De-trunking) Order 2009", signed on behalf of the Welsh Ministers and deposited at the Welsh Assembly Government Record Storage and Retrieval Unit (RSRU), Neptune Point, Ocean Way, Cardiff;

ii. "the trunk road" ("y gefnffordd") means the Fishguard to Bangor Trunk Road (A487);

iii. "the new trunk roads" ("y cefnffyrdd newydd") means the highways mentioned in article 1 of this Order and "a new trunk road" means one of those highways;

6. This Order comes into force on 25 June 2009 and its title is "The Fishguard to Bangor Trunk Road (A487) (Porthmadog, Minffordd and Tremadog Bypass and De-trunking) Order 2009"

SCHEDULE 1 ROUTES OF THE NEW TRUNK ROADS

The routes of the new trunk roads are south of Tremadog and north of Porthmadog and Minffordd in the County of Gwynedd as follows:–

(1) a route about 1.05 kilometres in length, starting at a point about 85 metres north west of its junction with the A498 principal road to Criccieth at Tremadog (marked A on the deposited plan) and including a new roundabout 40 metres south of its junction with the A498 principal road to Criccieth, and then extending in an easterly direction to a point about 190 metres north west of the centre of the junction between the existing A487 trunk road and the unclassified road known as Ffordd Glan'Rafon at Porthmadog (marked B on the deposited plan).

(2) a route about 3.76 kilometres in length, starting at the junction between the existing A487 trunk road and the unclassified road known as Ffordd Glan'Rafon at Porthmadog (marked C on the deposited plan), and including a new roundabout 50 metres southeast of that junction, and then extending in an easterly direction to a further new roundabout at the junction between the existing A487 trunk road and the Snowdonia Business Park access road at Minffordd (marked D on the deposited plan).

SCHEDULE 2 LENGTHS OF TRUNK ROAD CEASING TO BE TRUNK ROAD

The lengths of trunk road ceasing to be trunk road are routes in the County of Gwynedd as follows:–

(1) that length of the A487 trunk road about 850 metres in length situated between a point about 450 metres south west of the centre of the junction of Dublin Street and Church Street at Tremadog to a point about 400 metres south east of the junction of Dublin Street and Church Street at Tremadog and including Market Square in Tremadog (marked 1 on the deposited plan).

(2) that length of the A487 trunk road, about 4,675 metres in length, situated between a point about 65 metres south of the centre of the junction of (A487) Stryd Fawr and the unclassified road known as Ffordd Glan'Rafon at Bodawen, and a point about 30 metres south west of the centre of the junction between the existing A487 trunk road and the Snowdonia Business Park access road at Minffordd and including Stryd Fawr and Britannia Bridge in Porthmadog and The Cob (marked 2 on the deposited plan).

SCHEDULE 3 SPECIFICATIONS OF BRIDGE OVER NAVIGABLE WATERCOURSE

A new bridge over the navigable waterway known as the Afon Glaslyn in the County of Gwynedd from a point on the west bank about 45 metres north from the west abutment of the existing Cambrian Coast Mainline Railway Bridge to a point on the east bank about 50 metres northeast from the east abutment of that bridge.
