I, Micheál Martin, Minister for Health and Children, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 11 of the Medical Practitioners (Amendment) Act, 2002 ( No. 17 of 2002 ) hereby order as follows: 1. This Order may be cited as the Medical Practitioners (Amendment) Act, 2002 , (Commencement) Order, 2002. 2. The 1st day of May, 2002 is hereby appointed as the day on which the Medical Practitioners (Amendment) Act, 2002 (No. 17 of 2002) , shall come into operation. |

This Order appoints the 1st day of May, 2002 as the date for the coming into operation of the Medical Practitioners (Amendment) Act, 2002 (No. 17 of 2002) . The main proposal contained in the Act is to provide that account be taken of professional experience in assessing an application by a temporarily registered Doctor for full registration on the Register of Medical Practitioners. |

The amending Bill also makes provision for internship registration and temporary registration to apply in a number of health care settings, and it enables any EU citizen who has obtained their primary degree within the EU to apply for internship registration in this country. |
